AS3 Sound Spectrum and Flash Feathers Woodpecker

In Uncategorized on March 29, 2010 at 12:27 am

I’ve always loved music and design, and have always wondered how on earth do people synch music to animation. I was introduced to a few technologies that would help me accomplish this task. The first technology is Dan Zen’s Woodpecker from his Flash Feathers Collection. Woodpecker is a customized class created by Dan Zen to help designers create beautiful animations to sound. I was also introduced to As3′s sound spectrum. Hard coding without the Flash Feathers Woodpecker class, proved to be a lot more complicated. But with the help from a few friends, I had my first taste of creating synchronized sound animations with just pure code. I’m pretty happy with the abstract happy accidents that came from this process. Extremely fun and gratifying.

Before I started on this project, I did some research to see what others were doing in this area. A great site with amazing and beautiful examples is http://theflashblog.com/?p=197. It was a nice surprise to see that the winner of the AS3 Sound Spectrum contest, did not create anything like a typical screen saver. You should check it out.

I am extremely happy to have been introduced to this technology, this is something I can see myself, continue do throughout the years.
